FTTC Trials in Barking (LNBKG)

Today BE sent a newsletter to those customers who had preregistered for FTTC:

Dear Member,

An update on fibre.
First of all, thank you for taking the time to register your interest in a fibre service from BE and sorry its taken so long for us to update you on our progress. As you may have seen on the BE Blog, our plans to bring a fibre service to market are taking longer than we originally thought.

Simply put, in order to continue our philosophy of providing broadband that remains unthrottled and unlimited, we need to find a solution that strikes the right balance between value (for you and us!) and a swift time-to-market. Unfortunately, this isnt likely to happen this year as wed hoped.

To understand how best to make fibre work, were about to start trialling a solution where we install some of our own equipment into BTs local exchanges. Although more complex than if we were to buy a fibre service exclusively from another provider, we feel it could work better in the long run.

This will be a single-exchange trial to start with, and well be contacting those of you in the exchange (Barking, in Greater London) to see if youd like to receive the service for the duration of the trial. For those that do, in return for providing our trial service free of charge, all well require from you is regular feedback and your help in ironing out any problems we may experience (it is a trial, after all!). Once underway, well be able to provide regular updates on our progress and our plans for launching a country-wide service.

From the many comments across the Net on this subject, we know how much interest there is in a BE fibre service and were putting lots of effort into making it happen.

All the best
Everyone @ BE
